Brand Deal

A paid partnership where a creator promotes a company's product or service in exchange for money, free product, or both.

What it means

A brand deal covers any paid collaboration between a creator and a company, from a single Instagram post to a dedicated YouTube video, a multi-post campaign, or an ongoing ambassador arrangement. Deals get scoped with a brief covering deliverables (what gets posted, where, how many times), usage rights (whether the brand reuses the content in its own ads), exclusivity (whether the creator works with competitors), and payment terms.

Examples

  • A travel creator posts three Instagram Stories and one Reel featuring a hotel brand for a free stay plus a $2,000 fee.
  • A tech reviewer publishes a dedicated 10-minute YouTube review of a new gadget for a flat fee.
  • A parenting creator makes a single TikTok unboxing video for free product only, with no cash payment.

Use cases

  • Product launches that need fast, authentic-feeling awareness.
  • Reaching a niche audience a brand can't reach through its own channels.
  • Generating content assets, photos and video, a brand repurposes in its own ads.

Why it matters

A well-scoped brand deal protects both sides. Brands know exactly what they're paying for, and creators know exactly what's expected. That avoids the most common source of disputes: vague deliverables.

Common questions

Deliverables and posting dates, payment amount and schedule, usage rights (how long and where the brand reuses the content), exclusivity terms, and required disclosure language, such as #ad.
