CTA (Call to Action)
A direct prompt telling the audience what to do next (follow, subscribe, click the link, buy the product), placed at a natural point in a piece of content.
What it means
A CTA closes the gap between someone enjoying content and someone taking the next step: following, clicking a link, buying a product. Audiences rarely act on their own initiative even when interested. A clear, specific, well-placed CTA, instead of a vague 'check it out', converts better, especially tied to a concrete reason to act now.
Examples
- •'Link in bio to grab 20% off before it ends Friday' instead of a generic 'link in bio.'
- •A video ends with 'subscribe for part two next week' to drive follows tied to a specific payoff.
- •A creator tests two different CTAs on similar content to see which drives more clicks.
Use cases
- •Driving traffic to a bio link, product page, or sign-up form.
- •Growing a following by giving a specific reason to hit follow, instead of asking generically.
- •Converting engaged viewers into email subscribers or customers.
Why it matters
A specific, urgency-driven CTA consistently outperforms a vague one. The gap between 'follow for more' and 'follow so you don't miss part two tomorrow' is often the gap between a passive viewer and a new subscriber.
Common questions
Often both mid-content, once value has landed, and at the end. A CTA placed only at the start, before the audience is invested, tends to underperform.
