Discount Code / Promo Code
A unique code given to a creator's audience that both drives sales and lets a brand attribute revenue directly to that creator's campaign.
What it means
A discount code does double duty. It gives the audience an incentive to buy now, and it gives the brand clean attribution, since every sale using that code traces back to that creator. Codes usually use the creator's name or handle, easy to remember and share verbally, on a podcast or in a video, not only in writing.
Examples
- •A creator's code 'SARAH20' gives 20% off and lets the brand track every sale back to Sarah.
- •A podcast host reads out a code on air since a clickable link isn't practical there.
- •A brand pays a higher commission rate on code-attributed sales than on unattributed traffic.
Use cases
- •Podcast and audio-first sponsorships where a clickable link doesn't work.
- •Measuring which creators in a larger campaign drove sales.
- •Giving an audience a concrete reason to convert now instead of later.
Why it matters
Because codes are trackable and memorable, they give one of the cleanest reads on real ROI from a creator partnership. Brands that skip codes often can't tell which creators worked.
Common questions
Codes work in formats where a clickable link doesn't: podcasts, in-person mentions, or when someone shops in-store after hearing about a product online.
